Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find the model code on my MPC-6 or MPCW-6 controller?
The model code is a 3 character code found on the overlay, the flat plastic panel that fits over and around the keys on your MPC-6 or MPCW-6 control. It is located near the top center of the overlay. Each overlay carries its own code, and entering that code into the control sets up the control for a particular scoreboard model and sport or special function. Each sport manual on this site begins with a table of the model codes it covers, so you can use the code on your overlay to confirm you have the right manual.

Install the proper overlay for the scoreboard and sport on top of the control, then turn the control on. The traveling display prompts you to "START WHERE TURNED OFF LAST?", "GO TO A BOOKMARK?", or "ENTER YOUR MODEL CODE"; answer YES, NO, or enter the 3 character model code located near the top center of the overlay. To start a new game or procedure, enter the model code ("START WHERE TURNED OFF LAST?" is intended for recovery from a power failure only). The name of the sport is displayed briefly. On a wireless control, the control then asks "DO YOU WANT TO OPERATE WIRELESS?"; if you answer YES it prompts SELECT A GROUP and shows the first group set up in the control: press NO to see the next group name and YES when the group you want is displayed. If the control reports that there are no groups defined in the system key, turn it off and set up groups using model code 618 with the System Key Management overlay (see the MPCW-6 Control Programming Instructions). Depending on the sport, the control may ask further setup questions (for example whether to switch the scoreboard to bright mode); it then shows its ready or time display and the scoreboard(s) turn on. To change to a different sport later, install that sport's overlay and enter its model code.
Read the full steps: START UP PROCEDURE →How do I program my MPCW-6 wireless receiver?
You normally only need to program a receiver if its programming was lost after a repair, or you have a new receiver or control. It is an 18-step procedure in the MPCW-6 Control Programming Instructions manual, linked below. Follow that guide in order and do not skip ahead. In particular, never plug the system key into the control until the control prompts for it, and turn off power to the control before removing the key. If you need assistance, call 800-851-4040, option 2.
