The CSS-3 is a Cable System Switch which allows any size facility to route cables effectively for installation. The CSS-3 simplifies the multiple connections needed to complete or change a scoreboard system; thus, allowing scoreboards to operate together as a system or independently. This unit plugs into 120V, 50/60HZ outlet.

In the following pages you will learn about the equipment you have received. There is an illustration to assist you. Also included are a complete list of replaceable parts and a trouble shooting guide.

Please read this manual completely and carefully before attempting any of the installation procedures. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.

The Cable System Switch (CSS-3) manages the operation of a system of multiple scoreboards and multiple operator control points. It is the hub that connects operator controls to the scoreboards in a large system. By sensing control signals from alternate control points the CSS-3 automatically switches selected scoreboards to operate independently from alternate control points when needed.

This package includes a CSS-3 Cable System Switch, one sheet of cable labels, these instructions, and a system drawing created for your particular system requirements. Please review the drawing to be sure that it fits the way you want the system to work. Do not attempt to alter the system. If you have any questions contact the Nevco Service Department for assistance and have your system drawing at hand when you call. If the system drawing does not fit your requirements another drawing will be sent free of charge.

Every scoreboard system has at least one primary control point from which all scoreboards in the system are operated. Connected as shown in figure 1, the control signal from the primary control point is routed to all output channels. The CSS-3 will operate up to 18 scoreboards, shot clocks, and other system components requiring a control signal. If you have only one operator control point this is how your system is connected.

Large scoreboard systems can operate as a single unit but are often divided into groups of scoreboards operated independently for smaller concurrent events. The Cable System Switch automatically routes an input channel to a corresponding output when a control signal is present on that input channel.

Figure 2 allows for another control to operate the scoreboard connected to output channel "C". When the Cable System Switch detects a control signal from input channel "C" it will switch it to output channel "C": thus, overriding the primary control signal. When the alternate control is turned off the Cable System Switch will switch output channel "O" back to the primary control point input.

NOTE
NOTE: It is the signal from an operating control that is detected by the CSS-3; there is no need to change the connections to the CSS-3.

Illustrated by figure 3, an alternate control point can be made to operate more than one output channel by connecting it to the corresponding input channels with "T" connectors.

A terminated "T" connector is required at the end of each alternate control cable group.

Drawing number C7651 is an example of a system using the CSS-3. This is not intended to be your system.

The CSS-3 can be placed in any convenient room temperature location where the system control cables can be consolidated and a 120-volt power outlet is available.

It is very important to use the label set supplied to mark both ends of the cables. If changes are required or the labels are damaged or lost, order part number 935-0033 from the Nevco Service Department. These drawings are kept as a permanent record at Nevco Scoreboard Company. If there are any additions, corrections, or questions about the system a Nevco technician will be able to access your drawing by its number.

An LED overload indicator is associated with each output channel. If this indicator is illuminated there is an overload condition on that output channel. Typically a short-circuited control cable causes this. If the cable end connectors are installed correctly then there is damage somewhere along the length of the cable.
