Nevco Virtual Score Board Interface Decryptor enables the sharing of Nevco data to and from third party devices like character generators, via XML data format. It can be thought of as translator to and from Nevco "language."

  1. Read and understand the Nevco Virtual Scoreboard Data End User License Agreement included.
  2. Insert the Nevco VSBID™ CD into the CD-ROM drive of the PC running your third party software, or another PC on the same network.
  3. The CD is set to auto run and will show the setup window upon loading.
  4. Choose "Install Nevco VSBID™" from the menu.
  5. Read the instructions on the screen to guide you through the installation process.
  1. The Virtual Score Board Interface adapter converts your scoreboard data to serial data and connects to a serial port on a PC. The VSBI adapter requires 9 volts DC from the power adapter provided. If installing Nevco MPC data on a PC without a hardwired-fixed serial port, use the supplied adapter.
CAUTION
CAUTION: LABEL THE CABLE AND USB PORT! If the adapter is plugged into a different USB port in the future, the COM ports will be configured differently and changes will have to be made to the settings in Decryptor.

Reference the typical system connection diagram at the end of this manual.

  1. Insert the USB license key in a free USB port on your PC. The red LED on the key will come ON when the hardware is recognized by the OS.
  2. Connect the provided 9 volt power adapter to a suitable power outlet and the Virtual Score Board Interface Adapter, and last, connect the BNC Coaxial adapter to the MPC data signal source, either the coax output from the MPC controller, an MPC receiver (sold separately) or other signal source as an unused Nevco CSS-1 output, or 27xx top of scoreboard output connector. (Single dedicated source-to-termination runs of coax can be as long as 2000 feet. Contact Nevco, Inc. if you need assistance.)
  3. Run the Decryptor application and select your input Model Codes, COM ports, and adjust file names, or directory paths according the third party package with which you are working.
NOTE
NOTE: As an important note, set the checkmark for 1/10's of a second to get rapid updates in the last minute of play if appropriate. If you need to make changes see step 10 next. See the table on page 6 of the manual for some help on setting up your specific third party application, contact Nevco, Inc. if still experiencing issues.
  1. If making changes to a server with the existing com port, you must first shut down the server by right clicking the gears in your tool bar and selecting "Exit." You must also select the server in the Decryptor interface and click "Remove Server." Recreate your server adding the changes needed and select "Add Server." If you are adding a server, the existing server(s) can be left alone as long as they are all on separate com ports. In other words, once the server has been created it will stay with the settings it was made with. Multiple servers can be set up if required.

To the left are the two icons added to your toolbar when Nevco Decryptor is activated. The "gears" are the server deciphering the data input on the com port, and the "balloons" are the Decryptor Control Panel interface. Double clicking the balloons brings up the panel. You can exit either by right clicking on the icon.

Here you select the model code for the sport being played, the com port connection to the Virtual Scoreboard Interface Adapter, and the output file path selection dialog boxes.

  1. Optionally, place the NVSBID application shortcut in the startup folder if you would like it executed each time the PC is turned ON and for it to run unknown in the background.
  2. As the demands of the software are fairly low, installing on the same PC as the one used as the character generator is acceptable. Should difficulties be encountered, simply install the Nevco Decryptor software on a separate PC, and point the 3rd party software to the network location you select for Nevco Decryptor to write.
  3. Using NewTek LiveText II™ as an example, text input variables can be displayed via right clicking on the work surface, and selecting the tag from the list of desired features you wish to display. As seen in the following screenshot, HOME_SCORE and MAIN_TIME are readily available.
  1. After making the selection, the result instantly appears on the work surface (if LiveText is not in Text editing mode).

Inspecting these elements from Text editing mode shows the user they follow the following format in LiveText™… %Selection_Item% If the XML tag name is known, it can simply be typed in the workspace following this format.

  1. Combining multiple elements into the workspace will create a pleasing graphic that can be used as a scoreboard overlay in all TriCaster™ models.

LiveText™ sends CG pages to NewTek Tricasters as a NETwork input. NewTek typically recommends a minimum of 1000 mbps network connectivity. As there is only one network connection on many of the TriCaster models, additional hardware, such as a gigabit switch, may be required. Consult your NewTek dealer for more information.

  1. Adding the output as a Downstream Key will include the scores and time in your webstream or broadcast.
NOTE
NOTE: NewTek, TriCaster, and LiveText are all registered trademarks of NewTek Inc. and in no way affiliated with Nevco, Inc.
  1. A pre-configured template is included on the Nevco Decryptor CD. Extract Generic001.zip into the Livetext installation directory and open the Generic0001 CG page. The fancy template displays timeouts left, next possession, and bonus as icons and requires the font files from the zip file to be installed in the windows fonts folder. Using this template with Nevco decryptor will yield this display:
  1. It should be noted that Nevco Decryptor takes the place of Newtek Datalink and installation of Datalink is not required with Nevco scoreboard data.

Following is a table that can help set up Decryptor to work with Nevco and third party softwares. Each of these are explained in a way that will work with Display Director to create a virtual scoreboard. If you are still having trouble setting this up in Display Director, there is some documentation in the Display Director user's manual (in the troubleshooting section) that may help. Keep in mind that these are only examples and can be something different.

NOTE
NOTE: If in Display Director, make sure to set up the data reader that reads the file created in the output file path.
NOTE
NOTE: With FinishLynx and HyTek sometimes you may have to set up a loop (two different inputs on the computer are connected to each other). This allows the third party to output to one port and the other port is being input into Decryptor.
